We, the staff at Charlton Furniture have the pleasure of working among an array of finely constructed, solid wood furniture every day. Whether it is a piece for our showroom floor, or a custom order to be delivered to someone else, we all love to see the different furniture designs come through our doors. Being able to offer options that are crafted in the highest quality and standards is a huge point of pride for us. We guide our customers through the many design choices that need to be made including species of wood and color of stain, as well as hardware and specialty treatments such as distressing or wire brush techniques. Often, I will imagine what my own choices would be if the piece was destined for my home.
My moments of pondering led me to conduct a store-wide pole to find out which wood is the “house favorites”! The main species options include: Cherry, maple, walnut, elm and oak. Each species has its own sub varieties as well. The species that rose to the top of the list was Tiger Maple! Tiger maple is an exotic hard wood with a distinctive wavy pattern that resembles a tiger’s stripes. It’s durability and array of patterns make it a popular choice for those who want a unique and decorative piece of furniture. Much of the mainstream furniture industry does not use Tiger Maple because it requires sorting and re-positioning of the boards. It also requires a highly skilled craftsman who can make judgments during the building process instead of treating every board the same way as larger factories do.
The results of this pole conclude that the Charlton Furniture staff has extraordinary taste for truly impressive furniture design!!!
